Jack Byrne admitted that he wasn't expecting to play in Widnes' 1-0 win over Stalybridge Celtic.
The 23-year-old defender re-signed for the club on Friday and was thrust into the action after just 24 minutes of Saturday's contest after Niall Battersby was shown a red card moments earlier.
James Steele would grab a second half winner to seal the points and cap a mammoth away performance, led by Byrne who was arguably Man of the Match off the bench on his third debut for the club.
"I'm absolutely buzzing. It couldn't have gone any better," Bryne said.
"It was a Shame for Niall to come off. I thought the sending off was harsh but to come away with a 1-0 win and a clean sheet with 10 men, you can't ask for better than that.
"I was here for 18 months previously and the team hasn't really changed. I think the lads want it more now. They've had a sniff of being towards the top end of the table and want to push on even more.
"Everyone's in football to play and everyone knows how frustrating it is to not be playing. I'll always back myself and believe that I should be in the team.
"It was nice to have some playing time and the result on top is such a good feeling.
"I didn't actually expect to play on my way up here. I know the competition for places is so high and if I can kick on and play some games between now and the end of the season, that would be amazing."
