All home matches are to be played behind closed doors until further notice

Widnes Football Club can confirm that all home games at the Halton Stadium are to be played behind closed doors until further notice.

Halton Borough Council have taken the decision to temporarily suspend spectator events at the DCBL Stadium in line with local Coronavirus restrictions outlined this week by the government that cover the Liverpool City Region.

While the current guidance is that it is advisable that spectators do not attend amateur or semi-professional sporting events, the decision has been made in the interest of safeguarding public health due to the increase in confirmed positive COVID-19 cases and sustained transmission rates across the borough.

Although this is disappointing news, the Club accepts the decision made by HBC as the health and safety of our supporters and wider community remain of paramount importance.

The Club remains in open dialogue with the appropriate authorities and will continue to plan for all contingencies.

Measures will be kept under review and supporters will be advised of any updates in due course, but we do not anticipate that we will be able to host spectators at any of our four home games in October.

The Club are actively exploring the possibility of live streaming matches due to be played behind closed doors and will be able to provide further information in the coming days.
