Callum Chadwick24 Jun 2020 - 16:30

The Club have invested in wearable GPS technology to help players achieve the next level of performance

Widnes Football Club are to begin using Titan Sports GPS technology ahead of the upcoming Northern Premier League season.

Data is gathered to analyse performance information such as distance covered, top speed, power and stamina which can then be studied by the First Team technical staff.

Titan Sports have worked with a number of professional, collegiate and amateur sports clubs across various different sports worldwide, and Widnes will join clubs such as CSKA Moscow, Houston Dynamo and Rayo Vallecano in using the first class software.

The use of GPS is widespread throughout the EFL and higher echelons of Non-League football, and the club will be aiming to use the technology to build up knowledge of football analytics.

Newly appointed First Team Sports Scientist Kelly Aspinall said: "Investing in Titan GPS technology for the entire first team squad which will open up the possibilities to enhance the squad.

"I will be interpreting the data and feeding it back to the team so they can safely train for max potential, such as highlighting players at risk of injury due to overtraining and being able to assess match demands to direct training.

"We will be able to monitor how often players are hitting the different principles of fitness relevant to football as well as providing and measuring physical targets to motivate and focus players which will help with selecting the starting team."
