Widnes Football Club is delighted to announce the signing of MJ Monaghan.

The 29-year-old has penned terms to reunite with manager Michael Ellison, who he played under at City of Liverpool.

MJ is well-known on the local non-League scene and arrives boasting a wealth of experience combined with creativity and an eye for goal.

He began his career at Marine, progressing through the youth system in Crosby to make 42 appearances for the First Team, scoring eight goals.

Monaghan departed in the summer of 2014 and went on to enjoy spells at Skelmersdale United, Droylsden and Northwich Victoria.

It was his form at Burscough in the 2015-16 season that earned a move to AFC Telford United in the National League North in the summer of 2016.

He would return to Marine and has since had represented Warrington Town, Witton Albion, Prescot Cables, Runcorn Linnets and Lower Breck.

MJ ended last season at Bury, scoring twice in 19 appearances.
