All you need to know as the Whites head to Shawe View

Widnes will be aiming to continue their impressive start to the new season away at Trafford on Saturday afternoon.

The Whites have won three of their first four outings in all competitions including a 1-0 win away at Stalybridge Celtic last time out in the Emirates FA Cup.

Sharif Deans' 81st minute winner was his third goal in as many games and earned Michael Ellison's team a first qualifying round date at Stockton Town on Saturday 31 August.

But it's back to the bread and butter of the Northern Premier League West with an August Bank Holiday double-header with City of Liverpool to follow at home on Monday.

The Opposition

Opponents Trafford flirted with relegation from the NPL West for large periods but were eventually guided to safety by Karl Marginson, who was appointed manager last October.

The North started strongly with a 3-0 victory at newly promoted Congleton Town on the opening day before following that up with a narrow loss at home to Bootle three days later.

Marginson will be desperate for a reaction too after Trafford crashed out of the FA Cup last weekend in front of their home supporters, losing 3-0 to Emley.

A win would arrest a dreadful run of home form too, with Shawe View last witnessing a home win in February - a winless run of seven matches and one victory in their previous 12.

Goalkeeper Sam Booth was mightily impressive for Trafford last season after joining in November, while defender Jack Higginbotham is the son of former Manchester United, Stoke City and Sunderland player Danny.

Previous Meetings

This is the 13th meeting between the two sides since Widnes' promotion to Step 4 in 2018.

Trafford have three wins to Widnes' five in the head-to-head record, with the spoils being shared a further four times.

The two clubs faced off three times last season, with Widnes winning both games at the DCBL Stadium including an FA Cup tie, while Trafford's Kanye Nisbett rescued a point for the home team with a 90th minute equaliser in the league at Shawe View.
