A look ahead to Widnes' away game at Cheadle Town

Joey Dunn will take charge of his first game as newly appointed Widnes FC manager away at Cheadle Town on Wednesday night.

Dunn, who was appointed on Friday, will be looking for a positive reaction out of his players after a heavy 4-1 defeat in the FA Vase against Chadderton last time out.

Widnes, with Danny Salt in the dugout for the third consecutive game, were well beaten by Chadderton with a Nicholas Alexander brace and further strikes from Matthew Landregan and Matthew Crothers securing Chadderton's passage to the First Round Proper. Debutant George Lomax's 73rd minute header proved to be little more than a consolation.

Wednesday's opponents are Cheadle Town, managed by Terry Hincks. Hincks' side have had a poor start to the season, and currently sit 19th in the Hallmark Security League First Division.

Despite an impressive run to the First Qualifying Round of the FA Cup, Cheadle have struggled for form in the league and are without a win in their last four league games.

Last time out, Cheadle were beaten 5-3 at home by Eccleshall despite goals from Michael Sherrington, Matthew German and Samuel Noar.

Head to Head

In six meetings between the two sides, Widnes have only beaten their counterparts once. That victory came at Park Road in October 2014 with Widnes running out 5-3 winners. Tom Mitchell, Ronnie McCarthy, Joel Douglas, Bradley Williams and Graham Molloy netted for Widnes on that night.

In the five other meetings, Cheadle have come out on top four times, with the two sides playing out a 1-1 draw at the Select Security Stadium last season.
