After back-to-back cup victories, Widnes return to league action on Monday night as high-flying City of Liverpool make the short trip to the Select Security Stadium.
Joey Dunn’s side come into the game unbeaten in their last seven; a run which has seen Widnes progress to the quarter-final of the Macron Cup and the semi-final of the Reusch First Division Cup.
Last time out, Widnes convincingly beat Charnock Richard 4-1 in the quarter-final of the latter competition, with Tom Mitchell, George Lomax, Karl Ledsham and Chris Lomax finding the net.
City of Liverpool also come into the game off the back of a good run of form. Simon Burton’s side have lost just once in their last six games, and have won seven of their last 10 games in all competitions.
The Purples have begun life in the Hallmark Security League First Division extremely well and currently sit second in the table with 45 points from 22 games.
Last time out, Burton’s men left it late before running out 3-0 winners at St Helens Town in the quarter-final of the Reusch First Division Cup. Billy Webb, Michael Roberts and John Connolly all netted in the last 12 minutes to secure the Purples’ progression into the last four, where they will meet Widnes over two legs.
The two sides met back in October in the reverse fixture. Kev Towey and George Lomax netted for Widnes before Tom Peterson netted a late consolation for City of Liverpool.

Joey Dunn looks ahead…
Widnes manager Joey Dunn believes that his side need to maintain their high standards to continue their excellent run of form.
He said: “The basis of our game has been hard work and discipline, which won’t be any different on Monday.
“We know that we must maintain our high standards.
“We can take a bit of confidence into the game, but the dynamic of a football game begins on that first whistle.
“We got to be prepared right, do the right things and we’ll make sure that we give ourselves the best chance of victory.”
