Ello was appointed Widnes boss in September 2022. He has now managed over 100 games in the Northern Premier League despite having just six managerial seasons under his belt. After retiring with 200 Runcorn Linnets games under his belt, he became manager in 2016 and would steer Linnets to promotion to the NPL in 2018, finishing narrowly ahead of Widnes. He would then go on to manager City of Liverpool from 2020-2022.
